Registered investment advisers (RIAs)
Independent firms that manage investments and give financial planning advice to individuals and families as fiduciaries. They register with the SEC or with a state and are usually paid a fee based on the client assets they manage.

Marketing and communications review
Check ads, performance pages and client letters against the firm’s marketing policy and flag items for compliance.
- Inputs to confirm
- Draft materials, the source data behind any performance figure, and the policy.
- Human review
- The chief compliance officer approves or returns each item.
- Measure
- Review turnaround and items returned by compliance after the check.
Why: The brief cites SEC exam focus on advisers that merged and on claims about AI. Compliance review is where integration gaps show up first. Diligence risks →

- Inputs to confirm

Where AI changes the cost base
AI operating leverage: Medium. Operations and compliance work is document heavy and repeats across firms, but the core client relationship stays with human advisers and the SEC is examining AI use. Our view
Regulatory filing is heavy. The average SEC-registered adviser reported over 1,000 pieces of information in Form ADV Part 1A and Schedule D.
Most non-adviser labor sits in client service and operations. That includes account opening and transfers, financial plan preparation, meeting notes, billing, and compliance review of marketing and trades. These tasks are document and rule heavy and repeat across every acquired firm.
Our view
The adviser relationship is the product, so the AI lever is in the middle and back office. A platform that moves acquired firms onto one operating model can cut operations and compliance staff per dollar of assets.
